AdaCore's GNAT to be in Boeing 7E7
Ada Core Technologies' GNAT Pro High-Integrity Edition
to be used in Boeing 7E7
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. [July 19, 2004]—Ada Resource Assoc. member, Ada Core Technolgies, has announced that its GNAT Pro High-Integrity Edition for AE653 has been selected as the Ada environment for the Wind River Platform for Safety Critical ARINC 653, to be used in the Boeing 7E7 Dreamliner Program.
The Wind River Platform with AdaCore's technology will be used on the 7E7's Common Core System, provided by Smiths Aerospace, which is the backbone of the airplane's computers, networks and interfacing electronics. The 7E7 Common Core System comprises approximately 80 to 100 applications running simultaneously which will control many of the airplane's avionics and utilities functions.
Wind River Platform for Safety Critical ARINC 653 is part of Wind River's Safe and Secure Program, which provides fully integrated device software platforms to meet the FAA's stringent safety certifications. AdaCore's GNAT Pro High Integrity for AE653 was developed specifically for Wind River Platform for Safety Critical ARINC 653.
"The partnership between AdaCore and Wind River will allow Boeing to take full advantage of the Ada technology, which has been so successful in making the 777 one of the safest and most effective commercial airliners. Both Wind River and AdaCore bring more than a decade of experience to the table and are in an ideal position to help ensure the success of the new Dreamliner," said Robert Dewar, president of AdaCore.
Designed to be the most advanced and efficient commercial airplane in its class and predicted to affect the future of avionics, the Boeing 7E7 Dreamliner hopes to set new standards for environmental responsibility and passenger comfort. Developed to seat 200- to 250-passengers, the 7E7 will fly between 3,500 and 8,500 nautical miles at the same speeds as today's fastest twin-aisle commercial airplanes, the 777 and 747. Boeing began offering the new 7E7 to customers in early 2004 and is projecting that it will sell up to 3,500 7E7s over the next 20 years.
